It’s my Parting Shot for some Tuesday Tidbits…..
Before I really get into it, I was forced to watch SportsCentre with Jay Onrait this morning because of a late Tuesday night men’s singles match at the Australian Open. Yes, I said forced because I’m not a fan of the Rogers Sportsnet hosts compared to those on T-S-N – except Jay Onrait has too much “shtick” and inside joke stuff going on, rather than the meat and potatoes of what’s happening, which I prefer!
Jay dared to say that last night’s Winnipeg Jets at Boston Bruins’ game was a potential Stanley Cup final match-up. As a life-long Jets’ fan, young me – back in the 1970s – dreamed of that being the case one day! Present-day me says to Jay, pump the brakes, pal! Winnipeg isn’t as close to being a Stanley Cup contender as the standings and the numbers say – or the 4-1 loss to the Beantowners showed!
I’ll go a step further and says that Vancouver and Edmonton, as much as it pains me to say the latter, are a lot closer to being Stanley Cup contenders than my Jets!
The Oilers decided to give Corey Perry a second chance – or however many chances this now is for the 38-year-old forward! I would think G-M Ken Holland could better spend Daryl Katz’s millions on a better-quality back-up goaltender for Stuart Skinner or another Mattias Ekholm-like defenceman, but what do I know!
Coming soon to a book store near you, or an on-line novel display, “Wide Right – the agony of being a member of or a fan of the Buffalo Bills!” I can’t be the only one thinking that it would be a riveting, “behind the scenes” read of a franchise that can’t quite clear N-F-L post-season hurdles!
I’ve been a little distracted the last four weeks with some personal issues, so I’ve likely missed it, but can somebody compare how good Macklin Celebrini is when compared to Connor Bedard at the same time in their careers? If Celebrini is considered equal or better, then I give up on believing scouts and their assessments because there can’t possibly be a new “generational” talent every year?!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!…..
