Donna Harpauer, Don McMorris, Dustin Duncan and Gord Wyant have informed Premier Scott Moe that they will not be running in the next provincial election.
A media statement did not include reasons for the MLA’s decisions.
Harpauer has represented the Humboldt constituency for 25 years, being re-elected five times. Harpauer is the current finance minister and deputy premier.
Don McMorris has also been the MLA for Indian Head-Milestone since 1999. McMorris holds a number of cabinet posts, including minister of labour relations and workplace safety.
Dustin Duncan has been re-elected four times since his first victory in 2006. Duncan represents the Weyburn-Big Muddy constituency. He is currently the minister responsible for all major Crown Corporations and the minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority. Duncan is also a former education minister.
Gord Wyant has represented Saskatoon-Northwest since 2010. Over that time, Wyant has held a number of cabinet positions, including deputy premier.
“That’s over 80 years of combined political experience and service to the people of Saskatchewan and that is not easy to replace,” said Premier Moe in a written statement. “But at the same time, every government and every party needs renewal, and I respected the decision that Donna, Don, Dustin and Gord all made—that it’s time for renewal in their constituencies and for a new chapter in each of their lives.
Since last May, ten SaskParty MLA’s have decided not to run again.
According to the media release, the SaskParty has 37 candidates nominated, including 30 incumbents. Seven more nomination dates have been scheduled.
