Shawn Colborn farms with his two cousins on their fifth-generation farm that includes 12,000 acres of cropland, a 700-head Red Angus/Charolais cow-calf operation, and a 40,000 hen layer poultry operation.
The Champion Award recognizes a person who has engaged consumers about agriculture and worked to maintain public trust in modern farm methods.
Shawn worked in the crop inputs sector before rejoining the family farm in 2011. The Colborns’ host farm tours for national and international visitors who want to learn more about agriculture. He is a director on the Saskatchewan Egg Producers Board of Directors and helped start Delisle Crops for Community, which has raised over $300,000 growing crops on town-owned land and donating the proceeds to improve local reaction facilities.
CJWW Agriculture Director Neil Billinger spoke to Shawn Colborn on Thursday, February 8th, shortly after the award presentation at Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan’s Cultivating Trust Conference.
