Theatre lovers from all walks of life will be hitting the stage on Saturday and Sunday to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Saskatoon Summer Players.
Director Matt Olson says the production, titled 60 Years of Summer Players, will be a cabaret of songs from both past and potentially future SSP shows.
“You’re going to see a real sampling of people who have been involved in Summer Players shows, singing songs from productions of years past, and also some productions that maybe we can look forward to Summer Players doing in the future,” Olson hints.
He says the cast started rehearsing just a few weeks ago, and he is impressed with the progress they have made in such little time.
“It’s a bit of a mixed bag, and it is cool to see everything that comes together and to see all the different people that come out to be involved in celebrating a community theatre like this.”
Speaking of which, Olson says the talented cast really puts the ‘community’ in ‘community theatre’. The group is comprised of students, teachers, engineers, and accountants. In most theatre productions, Olson says only a handful of people get to perform. However, in a show like this, the talents of each member will be showcased.
“The nice thing about a show like this is you get to see just how much talent there is through every layer of Summer Players, because everybody gets a featured chance to sing, dance and perform, and just have a lot of fun.”
The show runs on Feb. 17 at 7:00pm, and again on Feb. 18 at 2:00pm at The Bassment. Tickets are available at Saskatoonsummerplayers.ca.
