It was the official goodbye for Chief of the Saskatoon Fire Department Morgan Hackl this weekend. An internal ceremony marked the end of his career Friday.
Hackl started as a firefighter in Saskatoon 36 years ago, and originally announced his retirement in December of 2023.
Before he decided to pursue a career in firefighting, Hackl was working to obtain an education degree at the University of Saskatchewan. Nearly 40 years later, in September, he was named national fire chief of the year by the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs.
Last Friday, March 22nd was Hackl’s last day. The City says, “The recruitment process is underway and a public announcement will be made once a new chief is selected. In the interim, Executive Officers will take turns as Acting Chief.”
