Eighteen women will get to develop the skills necessary to start a career in the construction trades, thanks to a $248,000 investment from the Ministry of Immigrant and Career Training.
The pre-employment program, titled Journey to Trades, will be delivered through Women Building Futures, an organization that aims to eliminate barriers for women so they can get into careers that pay higher than a living wage.
Minister Responsible Jeremy Harrison says the investment in skills training will not only support Saskatchewan’s Labour Market Strategy, but it will also provide women the opportunity to gain first-hand work experience in the skilled trades.
The 12-week program takes place in Regina and will offer students a mix of in-classroom and hands-on skills development.
