Through its Time to Rise campaign, Saskatchewan Polytechnic has received the largest donation from an individual the institution has ever received.
Real estate developer and philanthropist Joseph A. Remai has donated $25 million to the campaign, which is raising money for the construction of a new Saskatoon campus. It will be built at Innovation Place near the University of Saskatchewan.
To acknowledge this donation, the new campus will be named the Saskatchewan Polytechnic, Joseph A. Remai Saskatoon Campus.
Joe Remai was born and raised on a farm near Carrot River and is one of 11 children. He completed his engineering degree, and started Remai Construction with his brother Frank which launched a successful lifelong career. For sixty years he built thousands of multi-residential condominium and rental units, as well as commercial and hotel properties, primarily in Saskatchewan.
In a news release, Joe’s son Barry Remai, said, “It will bolster the province’s post-secondary system and better provide students with the skills and training needed to succeed in today’s ever-changing world. Joe could not be happier to contribute to the success of this project.”
