
The Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) is training more students to work in large animal practices in rural areas.
The provincial government subsidizes the tuition for 25 students from Saskatchewan, including five who are likely to work in a rural or mixed animal practice following graduation.
Garret Beatch is a second-year veterinary student who was raised on a farm near North Battleford.
The WCVM receives funding from the provincial governments in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and British Columbia. Saskatchewan will invest $13.2 million in the 2024-25 fiscal year, an increase of $667,000. Dr. Gillian Muir is the Dean of the Western College of Veterinary Medicine.
