On a bullpen night out of necessity, the Saskatoon Berries’ bats didn’t respond as needed in an 8-2 loss to the Medicine Hat Mavericks Thursday night at Cairns Field.
Playing their sixth game in four days, due to doubleheaders caused by rain-outs, Saskatoon got a solid four-inning start from opener Cory Wouters, but only managed five hits in the setback. A three-run sixth inning gave Medicine Hat enough runs to win with another four in the ninth inning putting away the Mavericks’ 17th win in 30 games in front of 1,548 fans. The loss dropped the Berries to 14-17, leaving them three-and-a-half games back of both Medicine Hat and Moose Jaw, who are tied for second place in the W-C-B-L’s East Division. The same teams meet Friday night at 7 o’clock at Cairns Field. Following is Les Lazaruk’s post-game chat with Saskatoon head coach Joe Carnahan, plus the linescore and game information from the W-C-B-L website…..
