An updated news release from the Saskatchewan RCMP says further investigation by Saskatoon RCMP into explosive devices being left in mail boxes shows that they are modified fireworks. The update adds that the fireworks will not detonate, and are not a threat, unless they are lit.

The Monday mid-afternoon news release also said that two additional damaged mailboxes had been located, east of Saskatoon in the RM of Blucher and the RM of Corman Park, between Highways #16 and #5.

On Sunday, RCMP responded to the RM of Blucher after suspicious objects were left in several mailboxes that had been broken into near Sunset Estates. Their investigation determined that one of the mailboxes had been damaged by an explosive device.

At 9:50 a.m. Monday (today), Saskatoon RCMP received a separate report of an explosive device placed in a mailbox on Rural Road 3040 in the RM of Corman Park. RCMP determined that seven explosive devices were placed in area mailboxes and six of them detonated. No injuries have been reported.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Explosive Disposal Unit is assisting with this ongoing investigation. Officers ask that residents not handle any suspicious or unknown devices found in mailboxes.
