Traffic flow and access to the Royal University and Jim Pattison Children’s hospitals resumed around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon after the Saskatchewan Health Authority issued a Code Black and police blocked access to the hospitals. Code Black signifies a bomb threat.
Around 11:30 a.m. Saskatoon Police were called to the hospitals for a report of a man in a vehicle believed to possibly be armed with an explosive device outside the ambulance bay.
Through ongoing negotiation, he voluntarily exited the vehicle and was apprehended by police under the Mental Health Services Act without further incident. A search of the vehicle did not locate an explosive device.
Patients with impacted appointments will be contacted directly for alternate arrangements.
Members of the Saskatoon Police Service Patrol Unit, the Crisis Negotiation Team, Tactical Support Unit, Canine Unit, and Explosive Disposal Unit, along with the Saskatoon Fire Department, Emergency Management Organization, and Medavie Health Services West responded to the scene.
