Another local athlete has won an Olympic medal. Twenty-year-old Carissa Norsten from Waldheim is a member of the Canadian women’s rugby sevens team which won a silver medal on Tuesday. Canada was beaten in the gold medal game 19-12 by top-ranked New Zealand. The Kiwis went undefeated and retained their Olympic title.
Rylan Wiens from Pike Lake won a bronze medal with teammate Nathan Zsombor-Murray on Monday in the men’s synchronized 10-metre platform event. Heading into Wednesday’s competition, Canada had six medals—two gold, two silver and two bronze.
