Not only is the event new, many of the sports being featured may also be new to you.
It’s the YXE Urban Games August 16th to 18th, with most of the activity centred around Victoria Park.
Discover Saskatoon’s CEO, Steph Clovechuk, says Michael Linklater attended the World Urban Games in Budapest in 2019, and decided that Saskatoon needed to do this.
Linklater is a former professional basketball player who played on the FIBA 3X3 (3 ex 3) World Tour. You may also know him as a competitor with his son in Amazing Race Canada.
One of the featured sports at the YXE Urban Games is the FIBA 3X3 International Women’s Basketball Series with eight international teams, including Canada’s national team, fresh from the Olympics, including Saskatchewan’s own Paige Crozon.
Clovechuk lists break dancing, dodgeball, ultimate frisbee, parkour, wakeboarding and spikeball as some of the other sports in the urban games.
The main ticket site is in Victoria Park but there will also be activities at the newly built basketball courts in River Landing, along Spadina Crescent West, on the South Saskatchewan River, at the Lions Skate Park, and at the Grip it Climbing gym on Nelson Road.
The event will also feature urban art and culture.
