According to a new data report from the Saskatoon Police Service, violent crime in the city was up by over 10 per cent year-over-year in the second quarter of 2024. The report and its findings were presented to the Board of Police Commissioner’s meeting Thursday. The violent crimes in question include homicides, kidnapping, stalking and robbery. For example, there have been 11 homicides in the first half of 2024, compared to the six that occurred in the first half of 2023.

However, on the bright side, the report shows significant reductions in crimes such as non-residential break-ins, vehicle theft, graffiti, and theft over $5,000. Compared to the first six months of 2023, there were over 1,000 fewer of these types of property related crimes so far in 2024.
