Smoke from wildfires in BC is continuing to impact air quality in Saskatchewan. There is an air quality advisory in place for much of northern Saskatchewan, but it also stretches down the west side of the province including North Battleford, Unity, Wilkie and almost as far as Radisson. There are 65 wildfires burning in Saskatchewan with eight of them out of control. There have been 573 wildfires so far this year and 362 is the five-year average.
Saturday saw seven new hot weather records set in the province including North Battleford, Kindersley, Wynyard and Watrous. Temperatures again Sunday are expected to be 30 degrees Celsius and above in most areas of Saskatchewan. On Saturday Leader, which did not set a new weather record, was both the hot spot in Saskatchewan and the hot spot in Canada. The daytime high in Leader Saturday was 35.7 degrees. Saskatoon reached 33.9 degrees with several other locations reaching 33 degrees or better including Maple Creek, Moose Jaw, Regina, Outlook, North Battleford and Watrous.
