Nine goals in one soccer game is a rare occurrence, however the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Women’s Soccer team was able to do just that Saturday afternoon, marking the second time in the program’s history and the first under current head coach Jerson Barandica-Hamilton. The 9-0 victory for Saskatchewan included two hat tricks from Marie Kilcher and Alyssa D’Agnone as the Dogs grabbed their second straight victory.

The first five minutes of the game were steady for both teams with neither side pressing hard. However, in the sixth minute, the floodgates opened with two back-to-back goals for Saskatchewan grabbing an early 2-0 lead. The opening goal started with Marie Kilcher receiving a pass from goalkeeper Nadia Kalyar and would feed Tia Lecox a beautiful pass for a wide open net for her second of the season. Moments later Nicole Burnett found Marie Kilcher at the side of the net for her first of the season increasing the Huskies lead just 7 minutes into the afternoon. At the 12-minute mark, Jade Houmphanh would find Marie Kilcher off a corner kick lobbing one over Winnipeg goalkeeper Taryn Raabe for her second of the afternoon. Shortly after, Tia Lecox would also get her second of the afternoon off her own rebound that hit the crossbar bringing Saskatchewan’s lead to 4-0 just 15 minutes in.
After jumping out to a 4-0 lead, Saskatchewan continued to apply the pressure offensively while playing tight defense limiting Winnipeg’s chances. Cheyenne Lehmann and Jade Houmphanh had back-to-back shots in at the 26-minute mark with two solid saves from goalkeeper Taryn Raabe. At the 30-minute mark Winnipeg finally registered their first two shots of the game, both on net with Huskies goalkeeper Nadia Kalyar making two easy saves to protect their lead. Nearing halftime, Marie Kilcher had a chance for her third goal of the game nearly all alone but Raabe came up big with her best save of the afternoon.
At halftime, Saskatchewan dominated in every category on top of their 4-0 lead. The Huskies had 10 shots, eight on goal compared to Winnipeg’s 3 shots, all of them on goal. Saskatchewan had six corner kicks while Winnipeg had zero, and the Huskies played a very disciplined first half with no fouls, with Winnipeg picking up two in the first.
Saskatchewan picked up where they left off in the second half, especially Marie Kilcher who had another great chance that beat goalkeeper Taryn Raabe, but not the left post as it bounced away from harm. However, Kilcher got another chance just before the 50-minute mark, a header that would beat Raabe to complete the hat-trick and increase the Dogs lead to five. Marie Kilcher continued her dominating afternoon firing a shot that bounced off the post yet again that setup Madison Mayert for the rebound all alone making it 6-0 at the 56-minute mark.
Moments later Nicole Burnett would find Alyssa D’Agnone all alone as she put home her second goal of the season giving Saskatchewan a 7-0 lead. That seemed to spark D’Agnone as she would find the back of the net again at the 59-minute mark, picking off a pass from Winnipeg’s goalkeeper after some miscommunication. D’Agnone found the back of the net again, breaking in all alone to complete Saskatchewan’s second hat-trick of the afternoon giving Saskatchewan a 9-0 lead. It took D’Agnone four minutes and 25 seconds to score her first career hat-trick.
Saskatchewan dominated from start to finish scoring nine goals, tying a program record. The Huskies limited Winnipeg to only three shots, all of them reaching the goal but goalkeeper Nadia Kalyar was ready when she had to be to secure the shutout. The Huskies are back at Griffiths Stadium tomorrow afternoon as they battle the Manitoba Bisons.
