The resolution was unanimously passed during a meeting of the Provincial Metis Council on Thursday.
The decision is based on concerns that some Metis Nation of Ontario citizens are not Metis.
Metis Nation of Saskatchewan (MNS) President Glen McCallum says the MNS government and provincial Metis communities need to have control over their culture and identity. The same decision was made by the Manitoba Metis Federation three years ago.
The resolution states continued association with the national organization no longer benefits the MNS and also resolves to fully withdraw its share of finances and assets from the Metis National Council. There are now questions about the future of the Metis National Council, which was formed to represent Metis rights and interests during constitutional talks more than 40 years ago.
