As the 2024 election campaign unfolds, Premier Scott Moe and the Saskatchewan Party are emphasizing their affordability plan, aimed at easing the financial burden on families, seniors, and homeowners.
The plan includes reducing provincial income tax, increasing the Graduate Retention Program benefit, and doubling the Active Families Benefit. It also introduces a Home Renovation Tax Credit and boosts the First-Time Homebuyers Tax Credit.
Additionally, the plan aims to eliminate the carbon tax on home heating, which could save households about $420 a year.
However, the NDP is pushing back, criticizing the SaskParty for perceived failures in healthcare, particularly at Moose Jaw’s Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital, where essential services have been unavailable for extended periods.
NDP representatives are calling for increased investment in healthcare workers and a strategy to train more local professionals to improve care across the province. With both parties presenting starkly different visions for the future, voters face critical choices ahead.
