The Saskatoon Fire Department has 12 new firefighter-paramedics.
A private graduation ceremony was held Friday afternoon for the 2024 recruitment class after completing the department’s intensive four-week orientation program.
Each recruit received their badge and battalion assignment during the ceremony.
A news release from the Fire Department says the recruits have completed their training in firefighting, technical rescue, hazardous material mitigation and community relations.
They are also certified to the level of Primary Care Paramedic and were licensed through the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics.
Their first shifts begin October 21st.
Fire Chief Doug Wegren says the Fire Department responds to more than 25,000 incidents annually, from routine to complex emergency incidents. “The wide range of situations our firefighters face highlights the importance of having members who are not only dedicated to serving our community, but also possess a broad set of specialized skills.
