Over one-third of eligible voters participated in Saskatoon City Council and School Board elections.
Just over 35 per cent of the 195,178 eligible voters cast a ballot at either an advance poll or an election day poll—that is an improvement over the 27 per cent turnout in the 2020 Saskatoon Civic Election.
Returning Officer Shellie Bryant addressed the lengthy delay in posting unofficial election results on Wednesday evening. She says there were lineups at several polls at 8pm and everyone in line was allowed to vote.
There was also a significant volume of mail-in ballots to process, and Bryant says while the vote tabulators worked exactly as designed, there was a longer than expected upload time to the online reporting portal. Journalists were able to report results earlier than the on-line site due to the posting of printed election tabulator results in the City Hall Lobby.
“The new modernization processes were successful, and they will be further analyzed as the complete election is review,” Bryant said in a news release issued by the City of Saskatoon.
A detailed Returning Officer report will be presented to City Council through the Governance and Priorities Committee following Elections Saskatoon’s full review of the 2024 Civic Election.
