The Rural Municipality of Biggar, about an hour west of Saskatoon, needed to consult the Local Government Election Act of 2015 to settle Wednesday’s Division Five Council election
Incumbent councillor Greg Mundt and challenger Chelsey Seidl each received 46 votes. The RM of Biggar does not have its own election bylaw and follows the provincial rules. Under the Act, in the event of a tie, both names are placed in a container and an independent person selects one of the names. Greg Mundt’s name was selected and declared the winner. Seidl was present when the draw was made and signed off on the results.
RM of Biggar Reeve Jeanne-Marie de Moissac says “it was done according to the book. We don’t make the rules, we just follow the rules.”
