Around 4 in the morning on November 4th, Turtleford RCMP received a report about copper wire theft at a work site in Frenchman Butte. From their investigation, officers identified a suspect vehicle. The next morning around 7, a traffic stop was initiated in Paradise Hill after observing the suspect vehicle. An RCMP news release says the vehicle didn’t stop. It continued on, damaging a fence, but later came to a stop.
The driver, who was the lone occupant fled on foot.
Police report seizing about 425 kilograms of copper wire in the truck. With the help of a police dog team, a 24-year-old man from Paradise Hill was arrested a short time later. His charges include flight from police, dangerous driving causing bodily harm and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. He was also arrested on warrants for other charges including mischief under $5,000 and failing to attend court.
From continued RCMP investigation, 25-year-old Levi Morris, also of Paradise Hill is charged with theft over $5,000 and mischief over $5,000.
