As the low-pressure system coming up from Montana and into Alberta gets closer to Saskatchewan, Environment and Climate Change Canada expected the snowfall warnings to expand eastward, and that happened early this afternoon.
Environment Canada says the snowfall warning in Saskatchewan has grown to include most of central and south central Saskatchewan. The southwest corner of the province is included in the warning, but the rest of the far south is not at this point. It now also includes Saskatoon, Prince Albert and Nipawin, further east to Yorkton, and south to Swift Current, Regina and through to the Manitoba border.
15 to 25 cm is expected, coming from a low pressure system over Montana tomorrow (Sat), beginning near the Alberta border and reaching the Manitoba border by late Saturday afternoon. The snow will taper off Sunday morning. For east-central areas of the province, the heavy snow will linger into Sunday evening.
Meteorologist Danielle Desjardins says we are expecting quite a bit of snow for Saskatoon, wit snowfall persisting until Sunday.
Forecasters are now predicting this weather system will also impact the northern grain belt in addition to higher accumulations for southern Saskatchewan including south of the Trans-Canada highway. The snowstorm earlier this week dumped 17 centimetres in Saskatoon.
