According to a survey conducted by HealthNews, Canadians have the 7th highest risk of developing winter depression or seasonal affective disorder compared to 194 countries worldwide.
When ranking the countries, the study took into consideration their latitude, prevalence of bipolar disorder, female population and young adult population.
Besides being quite far from the Equator, Canada also has quite high prevalence of bipolar disorder. The report suggests SAD is more common in people with a family history of other forms of depression, as well as bipolar disorder.
Greenland scored 79.7 out of 100, earning them top spot on the SAD scale. Coming in second was Finland at 69.3, and Sweden was third at 67.1.
