Colder weather is expected across the country this winter compared to last year. Canada saw its warmest winter on record last year.
Rachel Modestino is a meteorologist with the Weather Network and says things are going to change in January and February.
“But for December at least that cold is moving east. So, you’re in it now and likely intro December we’ll see temperatures a little bit more normal, maybe on the mild side. But the cold does return, and the cold does settle in over western Canada.”
And at this point Modestino suggests snowfall will be normal as well.
“And it’s going to be a question of does that storm track north at times. Or do we get more of the clipper storm track. I would expect it to be a normal season but favouring maybe some of those southern U.S. systems clipping Regina but not making it as far north as Saskatoon.”
She says everyone wants snow in December and it going to a significant contrast to last December when it was very mild and not much snow on the ground.
