If you enjoyed last year’s production of Baba’s Magic Mitten at Dancing Sky Theatre, you’ll be excited to hear that the same crew has put together a sequel.
Baba and the Kohkum Scarf runs today through December 22nd. Joshua Beaudry is a busy actor in the play, filling the roles of Bruce, Sonia, and a few chickens. He says the story follows two matriarchs, Kohkum and Baba, as they try to bring their families and friends home on Christmas Eve.
“Kohkum and Baba are the central figures in the story. We meet all the other characters through them…Their friction and friendship bring everybody together.”
As for the scarf, “it was a cultural gift that Ukrainian people gave to the Indigenous people when they were settling here in gratitude for the help that Indigenous people offered to Ukrainians.”
Beaudry says aside from being heartwarming, the play is hilarious.
“I play a woman, Sonia, in the show, and I fall in love with a tow truck driver, and we have a duet. There are just ridiculous things, and it’s very joyful.”
He believes the audience will leave with a sense of connection to their loved ones, and possibly a sore stomach from laughing so hard.
Tickets are available at Dancing Sky Theatre.com, or through calling the box office.
