A report from the Fraser Institute says patients wait on average about 30 weeks between a referral from a GP and receiving treatment.
In 1993, the wait was 9.3 weeks. In Saskatchewan, the wait this year is 37.2 weeks compared to 9.8 weeks in ’93. That includes a 17.7 week wait from GP to specialist appointment and then a 19.5 week wat until treatment.
The wait for a CT-Scan in Saskatchewan has doubled from 4 weeks in 2022 to 8 weeks now. For an MRI, it was a 16 week wait two years ago and now is 24, and for an ultrasound, the wait has held steady at 2 weeks, which is the lowest of all the provinces.
Across the country, patients waited the longest for Orthopaedic Surgery at 57.5 weeks followed by Neurosurgery at 46.2 weeks.
