To avoid being the victim of theft while you’re away for the holidays, it’s important to make your house looked lived in.
That’s from Angel Blair with CAA. To give the impression that someone is staying in your house, Blair says you could buy timers for your house lights, and you shouldn’t shut your blinds all the way.
She suggests that you could also get your neighbors to make tracks in your driveway, shovel your sidewalk, and pick up any parcels left on your doorstep.
She adds that posting on social media about the fact you’re away from home isn’t a great practice, as it lets potential thieves know that your house was left unoccupied.
“As much as we want to say ‘Hey, I’m leaving for Hawaii for two weeks!’, not a great idea to advertise that.”
