This is my last kick at the can before Christmas so may I take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Non-Denominational Festive Winter Occasion. Of course, that’s tongue-in-cheek because it’s Merry Christmas. There is a famous song of the season about this being the most wonderful time of the year and it is IF you have your health, and many do not; if you are comfortable financially, while there are those who need the Food Bank, or the Friendship Inn, or a Salvation Army hamper; if you have some family to share time with, because there are those who do not have anyone close. There are those who are worrying about relatives in Ukraine or the Middle East, places where this year the Spirit of Christmas would be evasive. If you missed it, last Friday I talked about how according to a recent Angus Reid survey only 50% of Saskatchewan adults feel a deep emotional attachment to Canada, down from 67% in 2016, the same year 87% in this province said they were proud to be Canadian. That number is down to 59% right now. Perhaps we’ll all have time this week and next to kick back and gear down for some R&R. I hope so. Remember, it doesn’t matter which religion you subscribe to, or if you have no religion at all. Christmastime is about setting aside anger and resentment and worry. It’s about peace and goodwill toward your fellow human beings.
