Although the Saskatchewan NDP was not successful in forming government in October’s election, the party’s leader says there is a lot to be proud of from 2024.
Carla Beck says the biggest highlight would be the campaign that saw the party nearly double its seats in the Legislature from 14 to 26.
“When you look at the confidence our team has brought forward, the connection with people that we have right across this province, and the gains that we saw. Even in areas where we didn’t win the seat, we saw a huge increase in terms of the number of supporters that we found.”
Beck says going into the election, she felt there was a real desire for change from Saskatchewan people.
“We didn’t waste any time in this short fall session. We continue to bring forward the concerns that remain after the election. Concerns about the cost of living. We are continuing to bring forward motions that would have, if the government would have agreed to them, seen gas prices drop by 15 cents per litre.”
Other proposed motions include removing PST from groceries and children’s clothing and launching an investigation into grocery prices.
In 2025, Beck is excited to continue connecting with communities across Saskatchewan, bringing their concerns to light in the Legislature, and introducing her new MLAs to the province.
