When thinking about everything that took place in 2024, Saskatchewan’s premier says the biggest highlight of the year would have to be the economy.
Scott Moe says the mining, agriculture and oil industries stand out to him.
“In particular, to the northwest of Saskatoon is seeing record investments into some of the most sustainable oil production on Earth.”
However, a threat to Saskatchewan- and Canada’s economy looms. Moe says the biggest obstacle that the province faces is the threat of 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian goods from President-elect Donald Trump.
“We are going to have to come together as Canadians, work together as Canadians, to ensure that we’re able to preserve that relationship. Fifty-five per cent of our products in this province head to the U.S. Eighty per cent of our imports in this province come from the U.S.”
When looking forward to 2025, Moe says Saskatchewan residents can expect the provincial government to prioritize affordability, improved access to healthcare, safer communities, education funding and collaboration. He says these five areas will be targeted most in the 2025-26 budget.
He noticed that 2024 was a bad year for incumbent governments globally.
“We see 80 per cent of the incumbent governments globally that are not successful in their reelection bids. Greece, France virtually lost, the UK, the USA.”
Moe thanks Saskatchewan residents for the opportunity to form a 5th term majority government and wishes them a Merry Christmas.
