The Prince Albert Police Service reports having a busy New Year’s Eve and early New Year’s Day, responding to 77 calls for service, which resulted in 13 arrests and the removal of a sawed-off firearm from the streets as a result of a check stop conducted along with MADD Prince Albert. A news release from the Police Service says a man blew a warning during an alcohol screening test. He was asked to get out of the vehicle and police say that’s when a bottle of alcohol was seen on the passenger seat. Then officers learned his license had been previously suspended. He was arrested, and when the 31-year-old’s vehicle was searched. a gun and ammunition were found inside. He is facing numerous weapons and firearms charges, as well as being in possession of cocaine and meth.
Seven drivers were removed from the road at the police check stops because of being impaired. Amont the 77 calls were 30 disturbance calls, six welfare checks, five calls to assist an ambulance, four evictions, two assaults and three false 911 calls.
