The Saskatchewan RCMP has released its list of the top ten 911 calls that “missed the mark” in 2024. Number ten on the list was a call from an individual who reported they didn’t recognize someone of the social media friend list. In fourth spot, a caller wanted an officer to come to their house because their cat was being mean to them, and they needed help with the situation. The number one 911 call that missed the mark was when a dispatcher received a call from someone who reported that their tambourine had been taken from a party they were at.
The RCMP reminds the public that 911 is for emergencies and crimes in progress and advises that there are ramifications for misusing the service. Not only is there a chance that your call could prevent someone with a life-threatening emergency from getting help , there is also a summary offence charge with fines up to $2,000.
