A picture of a deer posted on social media is what triggered an investigation into illegal hunting. The Environment Ministry reports that Moose Jaw conservation officers noticed the post that included pictures of a woman posing with an untagged white-tailed deer buck, and then through further investigation, another account was discovered with photos of the same person with other wildlife.
Lindsey Erbach from the Village of Marquis was convicted of four counts of illegal hunting and one count of providing false information, resulting in a fine of just over $13,000 and a three-year licence suspension. Lynne Dunbar of Moose Jaw was found guilty of unlawful possession of wildlife and providing false information to an officer, netting an over $3,200 dollar fine and a two-year suspension, while Blair Dunbar of Marquis was convicted of four counts of failing to tag game. He was fined $1,000 and a one-year suspension. Firearms, ammunition, wildlife trophies and wild game meat were seized.
