A public inquest into the death of Trent Angus will be held February 10th to 14th at the Dekker Centre in North Battleford.
The 33-year-old-man was wanted in regard to a drug and firearm trafficking investigation. A few minutes before noon on February 26, 2022, the RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) executed a search warrant at a quonset in Waseca.
Three people exited the quonset and taken into custody which is when RCMP say a gun was fired from inside the quonset hitting an RCMP officer.
They say Trent Angus left the building and refused to follow commands. RCMP used a 40 mm less-lethal foam projectile which hit Trent Angus, but they say he still wouldn’t comply instead brandished a 9 mm handgun and shot again at the RCMP members. Members of the ERT responded and Trent Angus was fatally injured declared deceased at the scene.
The Saskatchewan Coroners Service is responsible for the investigation of all sudden, unexpected deaths. The purpose of an inquest is to establish who died, when and where that person died and the medical cause and manner of death. The coroner’s jury may make recommendations to prevent similar deaths.
Coroner William Davern will preside at the inquest.
