A new leader of the Liberal Party of Canada will be chosen on Sunday, March 9th. A news release from the Liberal Party says a Leadership Vote Committee will plan and organize the vote.
To be a member, you’ve got to be at least fourteen years old, a supporter of the party, and a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada. For those who want to run, the entrance fee for a candidate is $350,000 and the deadline to officially declare they are running is January 23rd.
Two candidates have announced they are putting their hat in the ring – backbencher MP Chandra Arya and former MP Frank Baylis. Political experts suggest the two to watch for are former Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland and former Governor of the Bank of Canada, Mark Carney, but neither has announced they are running at this point.
