Last Saturday night just before 9:30, Prince Albert RCMP received a request for assistance from Correction Service Canada about a drug trafficking investigation at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary on the outskirts of Prince Albert. Corrections employees at the Penitentiary noticed a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot with three people inside.
From subsequent investigation, RCMP officers located and seized about 70 grams of meth, around 42 grams of cocaine, 38 pharmaceutical-style pills, and drug trafficking paraphernalia from the vehicle. Police report a homemade slingshot that was used for launching drugs over the fence was also seized.
Two men and a woman were arrested. The charges for 23-year-old Jacquelyn Charles and 25-year-old Keenen Grimard of Prince Albert, and 50-year-old Mervin Vermette of Shellbrook are possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, met and suboxone. The Canadian Addiction Treatment Centres website says suboxone is often used to alleviate the symptoms of opioid withdrawal and relieve drug cravings.
