Last Tuesday Saskatchewan Highway Patrol officers conducted a traffic stop on Highway #11 near Lumsden which is when they saw pallets of unstamped tobacco in the semi’s trailer. Lumsden RCMP arrested the driver and passenger, and officers seized 24 pallets of unstamped tobacco from the trailer.
In a news release Saskatchewan RCMP Supt. Murray Chamberlin says, “Through our partnership with other public safety agencies, we have been able to prevent 400,000 cigarettes – and potentially, millions of dollars – from circulating in the illegal market.”
Twenty-four-year-old Rajwinder Singh from Brampton, Ontario is charged with one count each selling tobacco/tobacco leaf product; possession of unstamped tobacco; unlawfully import, acquire or take delivery of tobacco; possess unmarked tobacco. He is in Regina Provincial Court April 15th and the passenger was released without charges.
