There are two new services available at select pharmacies across the province. The Government of Saskatchewan is allowing pharmacists to provide strep throat and ear infection testing, and from that they can prescribe and dispense the appropriate medications if needed. Eleven pharmacies can test for strep throat and assessment for ear infections, and 37 sites can offer the ear infection assessments only. Here is the list of pharmacies providing these services: Pharmacies strep testing and-or ear infection assessments 4260
Rural and Remote Health Minister, Lori Carr, says this project is one of the first in Canada, giving residents greater access to health care services by providing testing and treatment in one visit. Through $700,000 of provincial funding announced last fall, pharmacists were able to get training to allow them to assess and test for strep throat and ear infections.
