It’s my Parting Shot for my reactions to the headlines in today’s Star-Phoenix Sports Section…..
First headline…Former C-F-L running back excited to start career as a coach with Riders, Four-time Grey Cup champion is ready to contribute to team’s success this year. My reaction…after being a massive thorn in the side of your favourite Saskatchewan and Saskatoon football teams during his long playing career – namely the Roughriders in the C-F-L and, before that, the Hilltops in the junior wars – Andrew Harris now being a member of the Green and White as a coach is going to take some getting used to. As I heard someone say earlier this week when it was announced that the Riders were hiring Harris as their running backs’ coach, all of his previous transgressions against this province will be forgiven if his penchant for winning championships transfers to the Roughriders this coming season!
Next headline…Speedskaters fear loss of ice at Olympic Oval, Calgary facility is legacy of 1988 Games. Reaction…hello, Bryan Kosteroski?! Johnny Marciniuk? Don’t you guys have an Olympic-size speed-skating oval out at the Gordie Howe Sports Complex? Heck, if the Calgary oval’s ice system goes down for the count, bring Canada’s bestr to Saskatoon! Who cares if it’s outdoors, that’s how it’s supposed to be and would toughen them up!!
Last headline…N-F-L needs a firm rule to stop the flop, An off-season crackdown might be in store after Mahomes’ antics against the Texans. My reaction…the secondary headline is where the meat of this story-slash-complaint is at. N-F-L followers have had enough of the Kansas City Chiefs’ dominance. Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift – oh wait, she doesn’t play for the Chiefs – are trying to win a third straight Super Bowl title, something that has never been done before! Another win would be their fourth in the 20202s and folks are craving a different story line. Sure, two of the calls on hits on Mahomes were questionable – you never know when it might even up! Maybe this Sunday in the A-F-C Championship game against Buffalo or maybe in the Super Bowl – or maybe not until next season! But, it says here that it will even up at some point – it always does!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
