Two people were transported to hospital following an incident in downtown Saskatoon, which chlorine and muriatic acid were accidentally mixed together at a building at Spadina Crescent and 21st Street, which is right around where the Bessborough Hotel is. Just after noon, the Saskatoon Fire Department received the report, and a hazmat team was dispatched. When they arrived, the contaminated areas had already been evacuated.
The Fire Department says the release of chlorine gas was contained, and the hazmat crew began to ventilate the area. The Hazmat Team gave all clear for the air quality just after 3 this afternoon. The condition of the two in hospital is not known.
