The City of Prince Albert is hosting two free, public events focused on Reconciliation and Anti-Racism, as part of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action. The first event is a three-day event over consecutive Wednesdays beginning February 26th, which has a limited number of seats available, so you need to register ahead of time.
The City’s Director of Corporate Services, Kiley Bear, says one of the most meaningful ways we can support reconciliation is through education, and this three-day learning series is more for businesses and organizations who may want to send representatives to learn about what happened and how we can move forward. She adds, “These sessions provide an opportunity for residents to gain a deeper understanding of Indigenous history and the ongoing impacts of colonialism, fostering a more inclusive and informed community.”
It’s presented by the Saskatoon Anti-Racism Network and the Heart-Song Complex Trauma Program and includes discussions about racism in Canada, the historical roots of colonialism and its ongoing impact on Canadian institutions, and how best to be an ally.
The second event is one night, March 19th, which touches on what Indigenous people faced and continue to face and how to continue our reconciliation. You need to register in advance for the three-day event, which you can do by going to the City of Prince Albert’s website. Click here.
