The Official Opposition is urging the government to sign on to the National School Food Program. The NDP says in a news release the program was introduced last year, but the Sask Party government has delayed signing on and is set to leave $17 million in federal funding on the table.
NDP Shadow Minister for Education, Matt Love, says, “This agreement should have been signed months ago.” He adds that the NDP has heard from parents who agree and say this funding could have made a difference for them months ago. Six provinces have already signed on and Love says the federal government is ready to start funding this year, if Saskatchewan signs on.
