In the battle of two teams on three-game winning streaks, the Prince Albert Raiders were the ones to improve on that to a four-game run with a come-from-behind 3-2 overtime victory over the Saskatoon Blades Friday night before almost 11,000 fans at SaskTel Centre.
The result leaves P-A and the Bridge City Bunch tied for first place in the W-H-L’s East Division with 82 points, one more than Brandon. For the Wheat Kings, the Raiders’ win in extra time over the Blue and Gold was the worst possible result from Friday as it knocked the number of teams in contention to win the division banner from three to two with the two meeting up Saturday in Prince Albert. The winner of the Blades and Raiders contest will finish first, be the second seed for the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs and meet up with the seventh seeded Edmonton Oil Kings. Brayden Dube opened the game’s scoring just 24 seconds into the contest and notched the game winner at 1:38 of O-T. Saskatoon overcame the early deficit, thanks to goals from David Lewandowski and Zach Olsen. They held the 2-1 lead for over 27 minutes of play until Harrison Lodewyk forced extra time with 5:07 remaining in the third period. The Bridge City Bunch had the better of the play, out-shooting P-A 33-23, only to be frustrated time and again by the goaltending of Max Hildebrand.
