Multiple media reports say the Saskatchewan Roughriders have added N-F-L quarterback Trey Lance to the team’s negotiation list.
The move gives the Green and White exclusive negotiating rights with Lance if he ever decides to come north of the border. The 24-year-old was selected in the first round, third overall, by San Francisco in the 2021 N-F-L Draft. The North Dakota State grad started four games during two seasons with the 49ers, good for a 2-2 record. Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2 during the 2022 season after winning the starting job out of training camp over Jimmy Garoppolo. In Week 13, Garoppolo suffered a foot injury and Brock Purdy got a chance to start. Purdy finished the season with a 5-0 record and led San Francisco to the N-F-C Championship Game, which made Lance expendable. The Niners traded Lance to Dallas in August, 2023. The 6’4″, 226-pound signal caller started the final game of the Cowboys’ 2024 season – a 23-19 loss to Washington.
