The Saskatchewan Roughriders, B-C Lions, Toronto and Ottawa have each been penalized for exceeding the 2024 C-F-L salary cap, the league announced Friday.
The Lions have been fined and will forfeit the highest of their first- and second-round selections in the upcoming C-F-L Draft, picks three and nine, due to the amount by which they exceeded the cap. The Green and White, Ottawa and Toronto each received fines but will not receive draft pick punishment. According to the C-F-L constitution, Calgary – because they were the last place team overall – was awarded the Lions’ forfeited picks as the final selections in the first two rounds – picks eight and 17. The salary cap was set to $5.525 million for the 2024 season. B-C went over by almost $348,000 while the Riders exceeded the limit by $40,121 dollars. The Argonauts went over by more than $87,000 and the Redblacks went over by almost $23,000. The C-F-L Draft is scheduled to take place on April 29.
