A trilateral summit in Washington D.C. with mayors and local officials from the United States, Mexico and Canada, ended with a joint statement in support of North American trade. The multiparty group of municipal leaders believes there is value in free trade, and they warn of the high cost tariffs impose on families, businesses, and local communities.
The statement urges national leaders to respect existing trade agreements between the three countries, explaining that for nearly 30 years, North American trade has provided immense value to all communities, creating jobs and reducing the cost of living for families. The statement adds that the escalation of tariffs only raises costs for businesses, workers and consumers.
