Rosthern Fire and Rescue would like to have a grassland fire truck, to make responding to off-road fires, like grass fires, safer. That’s why they have come up with a unique way to raise the funds or trade their way to this specialized truck. A grasslands, also known as a wildlands fire truck, can transport firefighters to a wildland fire quickly and safely and it also provides a safe exit if needed.
Fire Chief Bill Doran explains that right now they chase these fires on foot with brooms and backpacks, and it’s not safe. So, Rosthern Fire and Rescue has decided to try something similar to something done in 2005, when the trade-up began with a red paper clip and ended with a house in Kipling, Saskatchewan. Doran says they began their trade-up with a bumper sticker and a patch and are moving up from there. They are taking donations, doing some trades and there will also be an auction of the items that have been donated.
Doran understands that the cost of living keeps rising and Rosthern Fire and Rescue doesn’t want to add any cost to taxpayers, so they came up with the idea to “Trade Up for a Fire Truck”. Check out Rosthern Fire and Rescue on Facebook for the latest information or give them a call.
