As temperatures rise, the Water Security Agency is advising the public to be cautious around water bodies.
The WSA says the ice on Saskatchewan rivers, lakes and ponds can be quite thin at this time of year, and the public should be aware of the risks that come with on-ice activities such as skating.
A written release from the agency says ice doesn’t melt at a uniform pace, and its strength can vary from one area to another. So, if you think you’re standing somewhere solid, one more step could prove you wrong.
The public is also reminded to avoid ice that looks slushy, has thawed and then refrozen, or is near moving water.
