The scam involves fraudsters contacting victims with a false story about a family member in trouble and will take cash to make the problem go away or get the family member out of danger.
Last Thursday Saskatoon Police was contacted after an arrest was made in Moose Jaw where police there had also been investigating similar reports. A 44-year-old woman from Montreal is facing three counts of Fraud over $5,000.
And last fall the Economic Crime Section began investigating a scam where a fraudster took money from the victims, there were three, promising to purchase tickets and travel for sporting events that never materialized. In total the victims were scammed to the tune of $30,000.
On Tuesday, a 54-year-old Saskatoon man was arrested and charged with two counts of Fraud Over $5000 and Fraud Under $5000.
